Think…Before You Press ‘Print’!

3-D printers are a controversial thing these days…if for no other reason than the things you can print. Some of them (which we wont bother to list here) can be downright dangerous.

Then…there is this.

My wife Karen pointed me to a video where someone is extolling the virtues of a 3-D-printed house.

Don’t look at me in the tone of voice. You read what I said.

If you don’t believe me…just look at this.

It’s a rather lengthy video..so you may choose not to look at all of it. I’m just not sure I would be that trusting of a home that someone designed and then decided to push print.

This — by the way — is happening in Florida. Now..in my long journalism career, I have covered hurricanes on location from both the South and North Carolina coasts. I’ve even covered — while in Memphis — a rare bout of ‘straight-line winds’ that damaged homes and tore trees out of the ground. All the TV stations there affectionately dubbed it “Hurricane Elvis”. Even considering that — for the home depicted above…concrete is the “printer ink” of choice and will be the underlying wall frame, I still would have some reservations about living in a coastal state understanding that between June and November I will be watching the tropics and holding my breath.

I know that many options — dependent on region — will be in play when it comes to building materials. On this one…PASS!

I'd Love To Hear From You
